He announced his decision at Katni on Thursday evening, after discussion with supporters and party workers. “ I resigned from the party’s membership and of the legislative assembly because I was elected on Congress party’s ticket,” he said.

“ I am now free to work for any candidate but I won’t campaign for Congress candidate Pateria at Khajuraho seat,” he said. He faxed his resignation to Assembly speaker Dr Sitasharan Sharma and party president Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi and PCC chief Arun adav.

It ended the week long drama in the State Congress over ticket distribution.“ I asked the party leadership to change the ticket till the last date of nominations but the party did not agree,” he said.
