Sanchi Stupa, Jatak kathas, Ashokan edicts on ceramic pots

BHOPAL : A huge collection of decorative and utility or daily use items made up terracotta, ceramic and papermache drew the visitor’s attention in exhibition-cum-sale ‘at ‘Mati Ki Mahak’ at Gauhar Mahal on Saturday.

Artisans or vendors of different places including MP, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh have put up some creative art pieces, made up soil are captivating visitors.

A big glazed ceramic pot made by artist DC Manna worth of Rs 16,000 is major attraction here. This transparent colour pot is in head shape of Lord Buddha and Jatak tales has been carved both sides of this pot. Its firing temperature is 1240 degree centigrade. One another ceramic pot in bird shape, plates and pen stand in leaf shape, mural works made up of terracotta with light glazing are on display. Some animated figures like elephants in green and black colour which is made by his son are attracting the children.

Some other ceramic items like Jar, watches, bonsai pots, coffee mugs, lockets, idol of Lord Buddha of city-based ceramic artists Girija Vayangnkar, Suchita Rai and Deepak Sharma are on display.

Some terracotta decorative and kitchen items of Rajasthan like deshi jug, curd pot, magical lamp, gas tava, lantern, bell, horse, tortoise in pair, small idol of lord Ganesh, tribal god Panchdevi are showcased which is major attraction of fair here. Some wall hanging items on which carved the daily life activities of rural and tribal life wonderfully exhibited here. Talking to Free Press, Rajendra Kumar said, “Our all items made up of smooth soil of Rajasthan. Our whole family involved in this work and I represent third generation. Around Rs 35 thousand worth of products have been sold till now in this exhibition. Wall hangings are in visitors demand.”   Lord Buddha in 3D form, Sanchi stupa, Ashokan pillar, Sanchi gate and unbreakable pots made up of ceramic stone carving and magnet lord Buddha are also on display here which range start from 200 to 500. Some decorative items and sceneries Gwalior made up of papermache are also another major attraction of this exhibition. Some colourful money boxes in different shapes like pot, cooking gas as well as Jhoomar with mirror works of Jhabua are being liked visitors. The costs of these items start from Rs 60to 200. Another musical terracotta items in which a person in Rajasthani attire playing tabla, harmonium, guitar, sarangi and dholak are being liked by art lovers a lot. The cost of big and small set these five musical items is Rs 1000 and 2000. Some fountain worth of Rs 18,000 is also available here. The exhibition is being organised by MP Matikala Board and has been extended till July 5 for visitors.
