BHOPAL : The state government may be making tall claims about the efficiency of its departments but the people’s representatives are losing confidence in the working of government departments. In a latest development, Sagar MLA Shailendra Jain used his MLAs’ fund to get a co-operative society of Uttar Pradesh construct a concrete road.

Ignoring the Municipal Corporation, Rural Engineering Services and other government agencies in Sagar, Jain hired UP Co-operative Processing and Cold Storage Federation Limited as construction agency for making a road in a ward.

On one hand, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan speaks of promoting ‘Apna Madhya Pradesh’ but the act of his own party MLA is putting a question mark on the government system. After constructing road through MLA fund, the said Society is seeking more assignments from other departments.

According to MLA Shailendra Jain, he has recommended a co-operative society of Uttar Pradesh on experimental basis to be made construction agency as there is delay in payment to contractors from Municipal Corporation. Jain maintains that the society is authorised to do construction works. He said collector and district planning officer must have given permission to the society as construction agency after doing necessary checking.

Meanwhile, collector Yogendra Sharma said he has no idea in this matter and he does not know about any UP based society being assigned work. In the past too, department of public health engineering got hand pumps dug in Bhind through Uttar Pradesh Water Corporation, which had generated a lot of controversy.
