BHOPAL: The State government, on Friday, tabled the second Supplementary budget of the current fiscal to the tune of Rs 7071 crores in the Legislative Assembly. The budget will provide funds to the government for execution of its major promises before the Lok Sabha polls.
Finance minister Jayant Malaiya tabled the budget in the House. It is expected to be taken up for discussion on Saturday.The minister sought Rs 1345 crore, the highest amount for energy department.It includes allocation for reimbursing tariff subsidy to power companies and providing free electricity to weaker sections and farmers.
The government had earlier announced to provide funds to power companies in five installments for waiving of surcharge levied on farmers and BPL families. Rs 100 crore have been allocated in the budget.Besides, fund has been proposed for formation of MP State Kesh Shilpi Mandal and MP State Silai Kala Mandal – the announcement in this regard was made before election.
Rs 175 crores have also been proposed for new scheme to provide ration at the rate of Rupee one per kg to BPL families and Rs 11 crore for computerisation of PDS. Rs 31 crore has been proposed for international convention centre in Bhopal.
Rs 69 crores have been proposed for payment of arrears to grant- in- aid to middle and primary schools, following the Supreme Court’s decision.
The government had promised to give arrears to teaching and non- teaching staff of grant- in- aid schools in 2003 elections but did not fulfill its promise forcing teachers to move to courts.
In the budget, Rs 335 crore were proposed for PWD; Rs 563 crore for food, civil supplies and consumer protection department, Rs 73 crore for home department, Rs 75 crore for school education, 255 crore for irrigation.
