BHOPAL : The kin of a deceased woman created a ruckus at Kasturba Hospital, BHEL on Sunday after rodents devoured her body parts inside the mortuary, during the intermittent night of Saturday-Sunday. Expressing grave disappointment towards lapses on part of the hospital administration, the kin of the deceased staged a demonstration and demanded immediate action against responsible staff of the hospital as well as mortuary.
Constituting a three member committee, the BHEL management has suspended mortuary staffers with immediate effect. The committee is comprised of two doctors and a senior member of Human Resources Department (HRD) to conduct the probe.
Gudia Bai, wife of retired BHEL employee Baldev, was hospitalised for treatment a week ago. She was asthmatic. She died while undergoing treatment on Saturday night after which her body was kept in mortuary. When kin of the deceased to take her body on Sunday morning, they were shocked to see mutilated condition of the body. The body of the woman had marks of deep cuts particularly at facial region and ear lobs. They stated a demonstration against mismanagement of the hospital.
Hospital superintendent Dr AK Dave, somehow, pacified the agitated relatives of the deceased stating that a probe would be made into the matter. However, he said that every precaution is maintained in the mortuary.
BHEL public relation officer (PRO) Vinodanand Jha said, “The BHEL management has suspended the mortuary staffers with an immediate effect. The management has also constituted a three-member committee comprising two doctors and a senior member of Human Resources (HR) who would hold an inquiry to find out the lapses leading to mutilation of body in the morgue. Further action will be taken on the basis of report of the committee.”
