BHOPAL : The path for appointment of Rishi Shukla as the new director general of police (DGP) of the state has been cleared.
Shukla, who is presently the chairman of Police Housing Corporation, met the chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday. He was summoned by Chouhan late in the night and was asked to be ready to take up a new responsibility. Orders for appointment of Shukla as officer-on-special-duty (OSD) at police headquarters (PHQ) would be issued on Friday.
DGP Surendra Sinh is retiring on June 30 and Shukla is next in the seniority list of IPS officers of the state cadre. Speculations about who would be the next DGP of the state were doing the rounds for a long time and Shukla was ahead in the race. Along with the transfer orders of Shukla, some other IPS officers may also be transferred.
