Revenge killing in Madhya Pradesh: Ex-sarpanch shot dead at point-blank range in Damoh

BHOPAL: The former sarpanch of village Kumi under Hatta police station, Damoh district was chased and shot dead on Thursday morning. The police suspect it is a case of revenge killing.

All the accused are absconding and Damoh police have launched a manhunt to arrest them.

Around 10-12 armed people attacked the car of the ex-sarpanch Manohar Lal Sharma who was heading towards Damoyh along with his family to attend a wedding. The assailants attacked his car at the Kumihar road crossing.††Manoharlal Sharmaís kin Priyank Sharma told police that a resident of Jamunia village Laxminarayan Sharma and others waylaid their car when they reached the crossing. Sharma and his men were waiting at the crossing for them, he added.

As soon as the car reached the crossing, a JCB machine coming from the opposite side tried to hit the car. †Uncle Manoharlal was in the driving seat and when he saw the JCB machine coming towards them, he took the car off road and drove it towards the agriculture field. But, the car could not move fast and by then attackers lay siege to their car and stopped it. They fired at Manohar, but the bullet missed the target. †The assailants then pulled Manohar from the car and started beating him. The other family members ran away from the spot.

The assailants after thrashing him mercilessly, shot him from point-blank range. Manohar† died on the spot.

SP DR Teniwar said that the two families had an old enmity. In 2019, Manoharlal Sharmaís family had allegedly killed a kin of Laxminarayan Sharma and this led to enmity between the two families.

A scene from a Bollywood action flick...

The murderous attack looked like a scene from a Bollywood action flick as the 10-12 armed assailants first waylaid ex-sarpanch Manohar Lal Sharmaís car. They then tried to run a JCB machine over the car, in which Sharmaís family members were also present. When Sharma managed to dodge the JCBís hit and drove his car off road to an agriculture field, the attackers chased him down. The assailants pulled him out of the car and after beating him vigorously, shot him dead from point-blank range. Sharmaís family members ran from the spot to save their lives.†Using the JCB machine, the assaulters damaged their car and then overturned it on the agriculture field.
