Building collapse: Seven killed in Sagar, four in Maihar and two in Katni ,

BHOPAL : At least 21 people died and 18 others were injured across the state due to excessive rainfall in the last 24 hours leading to floods, building collapses in Sagar and Satna districts on Saturday. Seven persons died in Sagar, four died in Maihar, two in Katni after house collapsed while three persons each drowned in Chhattarpur and Sanchi and two drowned in Bhojpur of Raisen district.

At least 70 had died in first spell of excessive rain. So far, 91 people have died due to rain in MP. Three persons have gone missing in Raisen after a Bolero was washed away. Army has already been deployed in Rewa, Satna, Panna and other district for rescue operation. Army deployed helicopters for rescuing people marooned in floods.

Seven members of an artisan’s family died and three were seriously injured early on Saturday in Baniyani Ghat area of Rahatgarh in Sagar district when their house collapsed due to incessant rainfall, police said.

The incident occurred in the early hours when the house of Mehtab Shilpkar, 59 at Ward number 7 of Rahatgarh area collapsed amid heavy rains. The victims were fast asleep when the house collapsed.

In Maihar town of Satna district, a newly built three-storey building of MP Housing Board with dozens of families living in it collapsed amid heavy rain on Saturday, burying many people under the rubble. Four deaths have been confirmed while five people have been rescued. Rescue operation is being carried on. Deputy collector, Rewa, and flood cell in-charge Kamlesh Puri said, “Flood situation continued to be grim. Forty five persons were airlifted and 35,000 people were rescued from flood hit areas. Many colonies are inundated. However, there is little improvement in situation.”

In Satna, 3 NDRF and 12 SDRF teams have been pressed into the rescue operation. Army has been deployed and two helicopters have been used for rescue operation. Thirty motor boats have also been pressed for the same.

In the state capital two persons were rescued after a wall collapsed on them due to heavy rains in Lakherapura locality. The residents of slum-dwellers from low-lying Damkheda area were shifted in view of water level rising in Kaliasot River. The city received 14cm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

As per the metrological department, entire state is under the impact of a deep depression originated from Bay of Bengal and it will continue to remain till August 22. Madhya Pradesh is likely to face another spell of excessive rain as another deep depression is likely to be active.

The meteorological department has issued warning for heavy alert at Vidisha, Rajgarh, Raisen, Bhopal, Sehore, Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Ashoknagar, Guna, Indore, Ujjain, Hoshangabad, Shajapur, Dewas,  Ratlam, Satna, Chhatarpur, Panna and Katni districts.

Road connectivity snapped between Sagar, Bhopal

Sagar –Bhopal road connectivity has been snapped due to excessive rain. Traffic jam is upto 4 kilometer. Vidisha-Bhopal has also been disrupted. Ashok Nagar—Ganj basoda has also been snapped.

CM takes train to Rewa

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to next to kin of deceased. He reviewed the flood situation emerged due to heavy rains in all the districts of the state in an emergency meeting held in the morning at his residence. On receiving information about the worst hit Rewa and Satna districts, he cancelled all his prescheduled programmes and took a journey to the most affected area. Due to the bad weather condition instead of plane, Chouhan chose road and train journey to reach the flood affected people.

“Heaviest rainfall at Biaora: Beorwa recorded 25cm rainfall and Kurwai recorded 21cm while Rajgarh, Ganjbasoda and Sagar each recorded 16cm rainfall in last 24 hours. Begumganj recorded 15cm while Raisen, Hata and Narsinghgarh recorded 14cm rainfall.”
