BHOPAL : The MP Private University Regulatory Commission is going to make it mandatory for all private medical colleges to make every single piece of information of any relevance to the students and their parents, public.
The objective, Dr Akhilesh Kumar Pandey, chairman of the commission, told Free Press, is to protect students from facing unpleasant surprises after they join the college, especially vis-à-vis fees, as happened in the case of Index Medical College, Indore.
Pandey said that year after year, the commission has been receiving complaints that colleges are charging money under various heads from students without informing them before hand about such levies.
The students who refuse to pay are not allowed to attend classes. The colleges also threaten them with cancellation of admissions imposes penalties on them.
Even the students who gather the courage to lodge formal complains with government authorities often develop cold feet later and withdraw their complaints.
The colleges are hiding their affiliation status, hostel, transport, food, library, college development, sports and other fees as also the penalty for not paying the fees in the stipulated time limit.
The commission is preparing a detailed format in which the colleges will be expected to provide every single detail.
As soon as the student fills the choice of the particular college, the details will be displayed. The students and the parents can then calculate the total amount they will have to pay and if they find it viable, they can lock the seat.
The Directorate of Medical Education and Admission and Fees Regulatory Committee (AFRC) will also get to know the details. The AFRC can then check whether the college is following its guidelines.
