BHOPAL : Leader of Opposition Satyadev Katare has said that the government had created artificial scarcity of electricity in Madhya Pradesh only to make short-term purchases from private companies.

Talking with media persons Katare said “Power company officials created this crisis only to make purchase from private companies on short term basis and on high rates.”

The government recently floated tenders for short term purchase of electricity in wake of the decline in power production because of inadequate coal supply. Katare alleged that the company officials got commission on short term purchase.

He expressed the apprehension that the government wanted to hold civic polls through indirect method. It wanted to hold corporators’ election directly and choose further Mayor of municipal corporations and Presidents of municipalities from amongst them. Katare said he wrote a letter in this regard to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Katare said the government did not hold lottery for reservation in civic body polls so far and it had created the impression that the elections may be held indirect manner.

On recent stampede incident at a religious place at Chitrakoot, the leader of opposition said the incident was outcome of the government’s negligence.

The minister for religious trusts and endowments Yashodhararaje Scindia had herself accepted that district collectors did not submit details about religious events and how they proposed to manage the crowd.

Katare said, result of Bahoriband bye-election is defeat for Shivraj Singh Chauhan and BJP as both did their utmost and used every trick to ensure defeat of Congress candidate.
