BHOPAL : NSUI and YC workers, protesting Vyapam scam on the arrival of BJP national president Amit Shah clashed with police personnel and were arrested when they tried to show black flags to the BJP leader here on Monday.

The protests were held at three places in the city during Shah’s arrival, even as huge force was deployed on the routes which Shah took during his visit.

At Roshanpura Square, the Congress workers had planned to show black flags to BJP national president and had put flags at the DCC office. The police removed them using force a couple of minutes before the arrival of Shah.

DCC president PC Sharma, former YC president of Lok Sabha area Manoj Shukla, corporator Guddu Chauhan and several others were arrested and sent to Central Jail. Police used force to disperse the protesting Congress leaders. Another protest took place near PCC office. YC workers led by State president Kunal Chaudhary tried to reach Samanvay Bhavan. The police barricaded and cane-charged them near Shivaji statue. Water cannons were used. The police booked Kunal, Bhopal LS constituency president of YC Amit Sharma and nine others under section 353 (causing hampering in government work) and sent them to jail. In the evening, they got bail from local court.

At Board Office square, NSUI workers were prevented from holding a Yagna to grant wisdom to Shah. District administration officials took them under custody for not having official permission for holding the programme.

The MPCC condemned the force on NSUI and YC workers. “The fact that the BJP programme venue was converted into a fortress shows the ‘political impotence’ of the party and the government”, said MPCC chief spokesman KK Mishra.
