Police get no leads; probe peters out

Forty- member probe team has quizzed 150 persons

BHOPAL: The investigation into the murder mystery of cashier Meera Ahuja that had started with great speed and confidence by Bhopal police has gradually lost its momentum. Police have been left with no option left except to interrogate the criminals on suspicion. Vikka, a criminal from Indore was picked up by STF two days ago but the sleuths have not been able to get any useful information from him or any other criminal so far, sources said.

A team of about 40 policemen led by ASP had started the investigation. The police had interrogated more than 150 people including criminals, collected information about location of habitual criminals, interrogated people manufacturing arms in Talaiya and adjoining areas, observed and even declared a reward of Rs 1 lakh.

Ever since beginning the officers had been claiming that they were on the verge of solving the case but they soon lost their confidence. Now they have no explanation and they just keep on repeating that they are working on different leads.

Meera Ahuja was killed by unknown person( s) while she was managing the cash counter at the office of the Power distribution company in the evening of Dec 1. The lady’s throat was slashed, severing her trachea. She was alone at the ground floor and collapsed by the time she could reach her colleagues sitting on the second floor.
