BHOPAL: Use of notified parking lot in MP Nagar Zone-II for catering and for running temporary shops outside Jain Mandir at Habibganj is severely disrupting the flow of traffic on the busy road leading from Board Office Square to Veer Savarkar RoB,
Jain seer Vidya Sagar Maharaj is performing “Chaturmass” on the temple premises.
A row of stalls mostly of puja items, toys, kitchen items has compounded the problem for traffic police, which has been pressed into service to regulate traffic as visitors park their cars on the roadside to purchase items.
It is lacuna on the part of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) which allowed the organising committee to use parking lot of MP Nagar Zone-II for catering arrangement by Jain community. Secondly, it is grand function of Jain community there should have a FOB for the convenience of Jain devotees, who are flocking to the place from all over the state and from other states to attend the religious discourse of Saint Vidya Sagar Maharaj.
It is totally mismanagement of organising committee which failed to assess the rush of devotees. It is not a one-day programme. ‘Chaturmas’ lasts for four months. It should have been organised in well-planned manger. It would been better had the saint been provided space in Jamboree Maidan or Dusshera Maidan at New Market or Bittam Market for the show. Roadside stalls of various items like puja-items, toys, utensils hit the traffic worst. Even traffic police is looking helpless as a religious issue.- Jaswant Yadav, 22, MBA student
The four months of ‘Chaturmas’ are going to end in the first week of November. So problems like traffic jams and parking will end soon.”- SP (South) Anusuman Singh
Parking lot should not be used for some other purpose. But organising committee is using the parking lot for catering arrangement forcing the visitors to park their vehicles on roadside either on main road and MP Nagar Road. Secondly, there is need for FOB because a grand Jain Temple will be built at the place and hundreds of devotees will now visit the place so assessing the footfall in the area, there must be FOB to convenience of people.”- Sunil Patel, 22, private company executive
Traffic has been badly disrupted due to mismanagement. There should been a FOB for the smooth operation of traffic and convenient of Jain devotees. The way it is being managed, it reflects that mismanagement of local organising. Secondly, BMC administration cannot shrug off its responsibly as it allowed the committee to use its notified parking lots for opening catering outlets.”- Samir Kushwah, 40, travel agent
