Notorious criminal jahreela, aides open fire at police, arrested

BHOPAL: A day after opening fire at police party, a notorious criminal and six of his gang members were arrested on Wednesday from Nehru Nagar area. Hardcore criminal Shadab, aka Jahreela, who was released recently after serving 8-year jail term, and his gang members had opened fire on police team on Tuesday night. The police had gone to nab the miscreants who were on rampage looting and attacking commuters.

Police have seized two pistols, bullets, two shells, sword, and one a bike and initiated proceedings against National Security Act. According to police, on Tuesday morning Jahreela had threatened to kill one Pintu Kashyap, after he refused to withdraw a police complaint. Jahreela had attacked Kashyap with a sword some fifteen days ago and following which the latter had lodged a complaint. The gang was on a rampage on Tuesday night as they attacked commuters. The gang assaulted a man in Aishbagh area with a sword.

Later in the night, Jahreela and his gang members, accosted Vivek Kohli, a sports material shopkeeper near TT Nagar stadium while he was returning home on his car. They tried to set ablaze his car but failed. The miscreants damaged Kohli’s car and also looted a bag of Shuttlecocks and rackets. On receiving information, when TT Nagar police team went to catch the miscreants, Jahreela and his gang members fired twice on the police party near Kasturba Nagar primary school. Taking advantage of the darkness, the gang escaped from the spot.

Later in the night, Rahul Lodha, SP (South), Bhopal, declared a bounty of Rs 10000 on Jahreela’s head and fanned out police team to nab him. On Wednesday afternoon, police finally nabbed Jahreela and other gang members from a deserted building in Nehru Nagar area. The gang has been handed over to TT Nagar police and further interrogations were onAlok Shrivastava, Town Inspector TT Nagar told over phone, that Jahreela was wanted in over 20 criminal cases including attempt to murder, loot, intimidation and others. Jahreela, who was released over a month back, after completing his eight years jail term. He had formed a new gang soon after his release. Jahreela also confessed to a crime registered in Ashoka Garden police station, added Shrivastava.
