BHOPAL : Despite government initiative to ensure best treatment and qualified doctors, patients suffering from swine flu or dengue prefer private hospitals over government ones.
Most of the patients use government hospitals like a temporary platform for treatment. As soon as pathological test report confirms the disease, they prefer to shift to private hospitals. This despite government spending huge amount on creating isolation wards for such patients in JP Hospital and Hamidia Hospital. As a result, isolation wards are lying vacant in JP Hospital.
After developing cold, cough and chest congestion, Santosh Yadav went to JP Hospital’s emergency cell for medical examination. “If I test positive for any above-mentioned diseases, I will immediately shift to a notified private hospital for further treatment. I hope it turns out to be a case of simple cold and cough. This is why I consulted JP Hospital emergency cell.”

Ravi Kushwaha visited JP Hospital for treatment of his son. “It is good for elementary treatment but not for intensive care or proper treatment. Doctors hardly give proper time. Hence patients prefer private hospitals. Patients feel neglected in government hospitals like JP Hospital.”
Civil surgeon Dr IK Chug said, “It is true but we try our level best to provide best treatment in JP Hospital. However, right now there is no swine flu patient in isolation ward. But dengue patients are undergoing treatment. People should avail the facility as government spends a lot of money on medicines and facilities for treatment of patients.”
CMHO Dr Ashok Jasani said, “It is true that most of the patients prefer private hospitals as they are under the impression that we do not take proper care. In private hospital they get proper care. We have failed to break this impression. We provide medicines to private hospitals but have unfortunately failed to convince patients that they would get proper treatment in government hospitals.”
