BHOPAL : Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, speaking at a programme organised on Monday here by Buddhist community, said that no one can abolish reservations.
Chauhan said it was because of reservations that Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of the country and Shivraj Singh, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
In the recent past, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat had called for a review of the system of reservation. This had triggered a debate on the issue and it was used by the leaders of the grand alliance of RJD, JDU and Congress to whip up sentiments against the BJP in Bihar, where polling for Assembly elections is presently underway.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah have also clarified their stand on reservations. Chauhan’s statement may bring the issue of reservations centre stage in the state.
The programme was organised by the Buddhist community on the occasion of ‘Kalash Yatra’ of sacred remains of Lord Buddha, brought from Sri Lanka. RPI MP Ramdas Athawale demanded inclusion of a Buddhist in the state council of ministers.
Chauhan said a grand memorial of Baba Saheb Ambedkar was being built at Mhow, which is birthplace of the architect of the Indian Constitution. Expressing his gratitude towards Ambedkar, he said that Ambedkar got the Right to Equality incorporated in the Constitution, due to which today any person, no matter what his caste or creed, can reach the topmost position.
Chauhan also spoke about the facilities being given to the members of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the state and the schemes launched for their welfare. At the outset, he offered floral tributes to the sacred remains of Lord Buddha.
