No ifs and buts in farm loan waiver: Kamal Nath

BHOPAL: A high level meeting of officials including chief secretary was held at chief minister designate Kamal Nath’s bungalow on Sunday. Though there are some complications in waiving off Rs 60,000 crore loans of farmers but it is sure that first decision of Kamal Nath’s cabinet would be of loan waiver.

CM designate Kamal Nath has made priorities of his government clear specially in waiving of farm loans- the promise that led the party to power. A high level meeting of senior most officials including chief secretary BP Singh, senior officials of agriculture, finance and cooperative department were present in the meeting called to discuss waiving of farm loans.

The officials tried to explain about complications in waiving off Rs 60,000 crore farm loan given to 40.96 lakh farmers of the state but Kamal Nath said there was no space of ‘ifs and buts’ as far as Congress promise of waiving off the loan in ten days is concerned, informed sources.

Nath wants that loans of all farmers should be waived off at one go while government officials had suggested doing it in parts. Sources also confirmed that first decision of the Kamal Nath cabinet will be of the farm loan waiver. The cabinet meeting will be held once Nath finishes of with his swearing-in ceremony that is scheduled on Monday. Senior officials of agriculture department had started working on the formula for farm loan waiver immediately after Governor invited Congress to form the next government.
