Commercial institutions, residents have to cross inundated roads to reach their destinations during rains

Indore: Niranjanpur is the most important square as it is situated at the gateway of the city. This square gives first impression of the city to visitors as it not only connects commercial institutions and townships situated in the area but is also the starting point of Bus Rapid Transport System.

Even after being so important, square is inundated during rains and the road between this square and Eicher square turns into another swimming pool. Residents usually stop using this road and take a longer route from Bombay Hospital or other areas.

Water logging not only gives bad impression about the city but also affects business of various commercial institutions, especially showrooms of luxurious cars like Audi, Mercedes and Land Rover. “We have lodged various complaints with IMC officials and even with Chief Minister’s helpline but no one has taken cognizance as yet. We have done a temporary solution, but permanent one should be done by the administration,” maintenance head of Sanghi Motors, dealers of Land Rover and Jaguar, Arjunraj Pathak said.

Not only the main road but connecting roads from colonies remain submerged at least for a week after rains. “The IMC cleaners come regularly but to take their share. Many officials visit the place but turn a blind eye even after passing through these hellish conditions,” Pathak said.

Similarly, maintenance head of Landmark Cars, Tulsidas Vishwakarma said, “We didn’t lodge any complaint yet because we know how government officials work. We prepared a temporary road in front of our institution to save our customers from trouble, but we can’t do anything about the entire road.”

Not only commercial institutions, the road connects with many townships and thousands of residents face trouble due to the same. “We face the maximum problem due to water logging as our vehicles go out of order due to water logging and we have to incur loss for no fault of ours. Area was under Gram Panchayat earlier, but now IMC has merged with them and are not providing any facilities including roads, drainage lines, street lights and others,” transporter Baljinder Singh said.
