Orders of green body to take action against illegal mining not followed

BHOPAL: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday has issued notices to MP Government, MP Pollution Control Board (MPPCB), State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA), and NVDA on a fresh petition filed by NBA leader Medha Patkar. NGT sought a reply on next hearing scheduled on November 28.

Patkar filed a petition in NGT seeking action against the officials of state government, MPPCB, NVDA and SEIAA for wilful violation of the NGT orders passed on November 17, 2015.

Patkar pleaded that actions against concerned officials under section 26 of NGT Act 2010 should be initiated.

She said that in its order dated November 17, 2015 NGT directed MPPCB to file prosecution against the owners of illegal mines and file a report on the same. MPPCB failed to initiate any action against the offenders which is deliberate non-compliance.

She further said that in same order NGT sought reply from SEIAA on what basis consents were issued to these mining. All related documents were also sought.

NVDA was directed to submit details of locations of mines and submergence area of the Narmada on topography sheet. District administration of four districts including Alirajpur, Dhar, Barwani and Khargone were directed for regular checking of illegal mining and establish check posts.
