BHOPAL : The new state BJP president may be named soon after Amit Shah taking over as the national president of BJP. Sources said new state BJP president would be announced by the next week and the exercise of assessing the suitability of the  probables has begun.

Amongst ministers Maya Singh and Bhupendra Singh are being considered for the post while MP Nandkumar Singh Chauhan is also in the race.

The speculations on the incumbent of new state BJP chief started with chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s recent visit to New Delhi. Union minister and state BJP President Narendra Singh Tomar is arriving in the city on Friday. Chauhan, Tomar and BJP organisational general secretary Arvind Menon would have a discussion on new state BJP president and final announcement will be made from Delhi.  The names of former state president Prabhat Jha and urban administration minister Kailash Vijayvargiya are also doing the rounds. The sources in BJP maintain that new state BJP president would be appointed after approval from Chauhan so that there is no confrontation in the state.

No woman has ever been appointed as president in state BJP and that is why Maya Singh’s name is leading amongst the contenders.

When Chauhan became chief minister in 2005 he got Tomar appointed as state BJP president who was a minister in his cabinet. This time too Chauhan intends to place a person on this post, who is in his cabinet and is his confidante. MP Anup Mishra is also keen on becoming state BJP president. Mishra has discussed the matter with Chauhan, Tomar and Menon. Chauhan on Wednesday had a discussion with former chief minister Sunderlal Patwa on the issue of appointment of new state BJP president.
