BHOPAL : A team of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, headed by the chairman of the commission Dr Rameshwar Uraon would visit Bokado village under Nayapura PS on Tuesday at 3 pm in connection with four women of the village being branded as witches. He will discuss the issue with Director General of police and district collector on Wednesday at 10 am.

The case had reached the ‘Gauravi’ one stop crisis centre (OSCC) at the Jai Prakash hospital on Wednesday last week.

Four women, belonging to a tribal community and residents of Bodakho village under Kajlikheda panchayat within the limits of Nayapura police station Kolar Road Bhopal were branded as witches in the village by a local muscleman two years back and were thrown out from the village. They filed complaints with the police following which the police registered a case but no action was taken against the accused.

The women, along with their families moved to Hoshangabad, where they lived for the past two years earning their livelihood working as labourers. The women said that the muscleman wanted to grab their agricultural land. They said that he had   adopted the same strategy against two other women 10 years back and had sold their land after taking control of it.

Huddi Bai, her daughter in law Guddi Bai, her daughters Sita Bai and Sugna Bai along with their family members were thrown out of their village by Jogadia Patel and his accomplices after branding the four women as witches two years back on Deepawali festival.

They also set ablaze their agricultural produce which was lying in their fields. The police did not take any action against the accused despite repeated complaints. Sugni Bai said that they met SP (South) Anshuman Singh on Wednesday, who, after hearing their ordeal instructed TI Akhilesh Mishra to make sure that they reach their village safely and ensure their security in the future. However the cops did precious little to help them.
