BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has recommended to the state government that family planning operations should be mainly done in operation theatres (OTs) only where there are safety arrangements and no threat of any infection. The Commission recommended that OTs should be equipped with all the facilities and in cases of emergency, there should be arrangements for immediate treatment. Family planning operations should not be done in haste, which may lead to complications.
The recommendations came in connection with a case in which one Jeevan Singh resident of village Kanawata Chakk, Ashok Nagar district, had complained that his wife died due to carelessness after family planning operation. The Commission has recommended an interim relief of Rs 1 lakh in cases of deaths due to family planning operations.
The Commission, reviewing the case, wrote that women have to face several problems during family planning operations in camps.In a camp, organised at Palera health centre of Teekamgarh district in October, 2014, a woman died. A similar condition developed in November, 2014 at Patharia health centre in Damoh district.
