Bhopal: Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme is the biggest scam as it has been designed to benefit only insurance companies, said Congress media vice president Bhupendra Gupta, here on Tuesday. Selected corporates companies were handed over the task of providing crop insurance cover, said Congress leader. Pradhanmantri Bima Fasal Yojana was forcibly implemented in BJP-ruled states and the number of farmers enrolled under it remains highest in these states, he claimed.

The anti-farmer scheme is one of the biggest scams in the country and Madhya Pradesh with highest number of famers coming under it certainly becomes an epicentre of the fraud, said Gupta The NDA’s crop insurance scheme has been drafted so cleverly that even media could not detect the scam and Madhya Pradesh remained the epicentre of the scam, stated Gupta. Gupta claimed 64 lakh farmers in Madhya Pradesh were brought under the crop insurance cover. The farmers paid a premium of Rs 804 crore for the scheme, however, the company paid only Rs 1 crore to around 8 lakh farmers whose Kharif crops were damaged.
