BHOPAL : Knee deep water greeted the people in their porch in many colonies when they got up on Sunday morning. The torrential rainfall lashed the state capital. The city recorded 3cm rainfall in just two hours. The total rainfall was 67cm and it is 11.5 cm more than normal so far in the state capital.
The heavy rainfall prevented people from participating in Rahgiri Day at both Boat Club and Shahpura Lake.
The water inundated many low lying areas in the city. In many colonies the water submerged porches and basements of many houses. People had to drain out the rainy water. Water logging persisted till noon at many roads. As it was Sunday, so it was quite a relief for the people as they did not face problems due to water-logging on roads.
Prominent roads in the city including Hamidia Road, Jyoti Talkies, RCVP Academy of Administration, 1100 Quarter (Hanuman Mandir), 11 number SBI Square, Habibganj under-bridge, Rachna Nagar (Under Bridge) were waterlogged.
Similarly, basement of many commercial complex were inundated due to rainy water. The shops which have been opened in basement, were inundated due to rainy water which gushed in basement. Shopkeepers had to siphon off the stagnant water.
As per the meteorological department, there was an upper air cyclonic circulation over Western parts of the state. The met department has issued warning that rain would occur at isolated places over Bhopal, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Agar, Raisen, Hoshangabad districts during the next 24 hours. The depression over Bangladesh is lying centred at Jharkhand and adjoining Gangatic west Bengal.
