Offer your card, get Rs 2K in cash
BHOPAL: In a new initiative, the State Bank of India has launched ‘Mobile ATMs’ to dispense cash. Any customer of the bank can draw Rs 2000 from these ATMs using his ATM-cum-debit cards.
The Mobile ATMs are being manned by retired officers of the bank. To begin with, four mobile ATMs have been launched. “We are trying to make things as easy for our customers as possible”, Syed Jaluluddin Rizvi, Chief Manager, PR told Free Press.
The mobile ATMs are basically SUVs manned by two retired officers, a driver and a guard. The officers are armed with hand-held POS machines. The customers give their cards to the officers who swipe them in the machine and then ask the customers to feed their PIN. Once the payment is cleared, they handover the cash (up to Rs 2000) in Rs 100 currency notes.
Ajay Shrivastava, a retired SBI officer sitting in a Tavera just outside the SBI branch in TT Nagar was busy swiping cards and handing over cash to the customers crowded at the window of the vehicle. “Hum log to seva kar rahe hain”, he said, when asked whether the bank was paying any honorarium to them. He said that they were travelling all over the city. “We are just back from Bairagarh Chichli”, he said.
Om Prakash, who runs a shop on Jail Road, was visibly happy over the hassle-free operation. “There are queues at ATMs. This is a very good facility. SBI apne grahakon ka khayal rakh rahi hai”.
