Maneka eats half-cooked rice, spoiled ‘Kadhi’ at Aaganwadi

BHOPAL : Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, during her Bhopal trip, had meals with children at Aanganwadi at Mandideep, where she got half-cooked rice and spoiled’Kadhi’ to eat.

Maneka during conversation with journalists said she found the arrangements in Aagandwadis and food being served to children satisfactory though at the Mandideep Aaganwadi Centre, she found uncooked rice and poor quality ‘Kari’. When Maneka was asked about the quality of food being served at these Aaaganwadi Centres on routine days, she tossed the question towards Minister for Woman and Child Development Maya Singh. Maneka said the government is trying to make the process of adoption simpler. She said bureaucrats should also come forward to take responsibility of orphan children and she would make efforts in this direction across the country.

‘Show films on bringing up babies to parents in hospitals’

Maneka said the schemes launched in the state to empower women and end malnutrition are excellent. She appreciated the implementation of schemes namely Ladli Laxmi, Shaurya Dal, Sneha Sarokar, mapping, Atal Bal Mitra and giving 33 per cent reservation to women in police. She said Central government would also implement the initiatives taken by the state government in other states.   Maneka reviewed the developmental schemes on woman and children. Maneka said One Stop Crisis Centre scheme should be given special attention for the safety of woman and develop sensitivity towards them. She said a Centre is being opened at Indore. Such centres would be opened in all districts and constituencies after seeing the results.       She emphasised on imparting of best training to people working at these centres. She said we need to pay attention to the functioning of NGO. Maneka said a film should be made showing how to nurture a baby after its birth and it should be shown to the parents in the hospital. She urged to expand child line and emphasised on not increasing the age limit of children coming for foster care to more than 4 months. She said a website had been launched by the Central government for making tracking system of missing children effective. Maneka said the Aadhar cards of children at Juvenile homes and orphanages should also be made.
