BHOPAL : Organisations of gas victims have demanded that the report of the Kochar Commission should be made public. The single-member probe commission, headed by Justice SL Kochar, was constituted for investigation into various aspects of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. The commission has submitted its report to the government.

Under the banner of Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan, a delegation of gas victims will call on CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan demanding fulfillment of their demands before the 31st anniversary of Bhopal gas tragedy on December 3.

The Sangathan convener, Abdul Jabbar, while interacting with the media on Monday said, “We demand that Justice Kochar Commission report be made public by the government”. He also demanded that fast track courts should be constituted for early disposal of criminal cases related to the tragedy. UCC top bosses were convicted in June 2010 but they are yet to undergo imprisonment. Similarly, the Curative petition is still pending in Supreme Court.

He said, “Adequate medical facilities have still not been provided to the gas victims, even 31 years after the tragedy. ICMR failed to run the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC).”

He also said that nothing had been done to make good the damage to the environment.

He said that the state government should clarify where the money meant for providing compensation to the gas victims was used and what are its plans vis-à-vis the remaining money. The Bhopal collector has stopped distribution of destitute pension to gas victims. It should be re-started, Jabbar added.
