Betul (Madhya Pradesh): A young tribal woman from Bheempur area in Betul district in MP is moving from pillar to post seeking justice.

She alleged that her uncle and aunt sold her for Rs 2 lakh to a contractor in Kerala where she had gone to work with them a year ago, police sources said.

The woman told the police that the contractor Hara detained her and tried to violate her.

The woman somehow wriggled out of the clutches of the contractor and reached her village with her younger brother.

The agent, however, reached the woman’s village where the Panchayat, rather than supporting the woman, backed the contractor, sources further said.

Thus, the woman and her parents sought the help of the police and that of the district administration to get out of the hands of the contractor, sources further said.

According to reports, the woman, along with a few villagers, went to Kerala to work there.

The contractor detained the woman, asking her to marry him, sources further said.

As soon as the woman found an opportunity she escaped from the contractor’s custody and reached her village with her younger brother, sources said.

The contractor, however, came to Bheempur in search of the woman. The relatives of the woman complained to the superintendent of police about the incident.

According to the complaint, the woman, together with several relatives and villagers, went to Kerala to earn a living.

Her relatives left the woman to Hara, and it was just after this, that he wanted to marry her.

The woman said her younger brother had visited Kerala to rescue her from the clutches of the contractor. She escaped from there with him.

The woman, together with her parents, reached the district headquarters and lodged a complaint against the contractor.

The mother of the woman said the contractor had come to the village to take her back to Kerala.

He also made false allegations against the woman that she had taken Rs 2 lakh from him.

Some locals said the Panchayat had held a meeting to deal with the case. It issued an order asking the woman’s parents to let the woman go to Kerala along with the contractor.

As the contractor is camping in the village, the woman has gone into hiding, sources added.

The relatives of the woman said that she had not taken any money from the contractor who is already married.

Deputy superintendent of police of Mahila Cell in Betul, Pallavi Gaur, said she came to know that a contractor wishing to marry the woman had detained her in Kerala from where she escaped.

Gaur further said that she had spoken to the woman who was not able to utter the name of the village where she had gone to work. The police are sending a team to Kerala to inquire into the case.

The woman told the police that the contractor had tried to violate her and the Panchayat did not support her.
