Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Police in Morena district went into a tizzy on Thursday morning after two rifles and 150 cartridges reported to go missing from a police outpost. The senior police, however, later claimed that rifles were found in a room at the police outpost, only a few cartridges are missing.
The incident was reported at Mirghan police outpost of Dimani police station. Sources said the police constables posted at the outpost to inform Dimani police station in-charge that two rifles and nearly 150 cartridges went missing from the store room.
On getting information, senior police officers including superintendent of police Lalit Shakya and additional superintendent of police Raisingh Narwariya along with police forces of three police stations reached the spot and started searching.
Talking to Free Press over phone, Raisingh Narwariya said the rifles were found kept safely in a room of the police outpost. “Around 30 cartridges were found scattered in a room. Earlier, it was reported that rifles and cartridges have been stolen. We have conducted a search. Prima facie it does not seem to be a case of theft. The constables are still being questioned. Though, some cartridges are still missing. We are trying to find out the truth,” he said, adding that it was a misreporting by the constables of the police outpost.
Sources said that police teams were still conducting searches in the area, though senior police officers have returned to district headquarters.
