Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the current Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, is a senior leader of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah. Shivraj Singh Chouhan is among the most successful Chief Ministers of state, holding the post of Madhya Pradesh CM for the longest time. With the leadership of CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan in Madhya Pradesh, BJP has been able to keep a strong presence in the state since more than a decade.

Shivraj Singh Chauhan was chosen to become the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for the first time on November 29, 2005, replacing Babulal Gaur. Afterwards, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan managed to keep his aura alive among the people of state, who chose BJP in the upcoming thirteenth and fourteenth assembly elections, enabling Shivraj Singh Chouhan government to rule the state for more than 12 years till now.

Personal life of Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Shivraj Singh Chouhan was born on March 5, 1959 at Budhni town, situated at Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh. Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s family had an agricultural background. Born to Prem Singh Chouhan and his wife Sundar Bai Chouhan, Shivraj Singh Chouhan was an agriculturist by profession before joining politics. He is married to Sadhna Singh Chouhan, with whom he has two sons named Kunam and Kartrikey. Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s son Kartrikey has studied law from Symbiosis University of Pune.

Political career of Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s major political career started when he was first elected to Madhya Pradesh Assembly from Budhni Constituency in 1990. He was elected a Member of Parliament for the first time in his career in 10th Lok Sabha from Vidisha Constituency in 1991.

He was re-elected in the 1996 and was member of committee on Urban and Rural Development from 1996 to 1997 and General Secretary of BJP, Madhya Pradesh in 1997-98. He was again elected in the 12th Lok Sabha in 1998, and handled the post of Member of Committee on Urban and Rural Development and its Sub-Committee on Ministry of Rural Areas and Employment. He was also re-elected in the 14th and 15th Lok Sabha, thereby having been elected for the 5th consecutive term in a row.

During Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections in 2003, BJP defeated Congress bagging victory in the polls. However, Shivraj Singh Chouhan contested unsuccessfully in the elections from Raghogarh, losing to incumbent MP CM and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh

Being the Madhya Pradesh BJP President, Shivraj Singh Chouhan was first chosen as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on November 29, 2005, replacing Babulal Gaur. He contested a by-election seat from Budhni assembly constituency next year and bagged victory with over 36,000 votes.

In 2008 and 2013 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, Chouhan retained his seat from Budhni constituency, thereby, holding the position of Madhya Pradesh chief Minister both the time. He is currently holding his third term as MP CM and has been the Chief Minister for the longest term in the history of Madhya Pradesh.
