With just 11 days to go for the mega polls, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is working with full might through public meetings. Despite some resentment in people towards BJP candidates, the “magic” of Chouhan can be seen easily. Chouhan’s popularity is easily seen across the state, including Chhindwara, Balaghat and Seoni districts, known to be bastion of Congress state president Kamal Nath.
Chouhan’s ‘Mama Impact’ is visible in every constituency. Women and girls are an integral part of the crowd that cheers for Mama at Chaurai and Sonsar of Chhindwara district, Lanjhi, Katangi and Paraswara of Balaghat district and Kewlari of Seoni district. Children, unaffected by election issues, are seen shouting ‘Mama-Mama’ at every meeting of Chouhan. Chouhan’s image of ‘Mama’ has cast its spell in the remote naxal-affected areas of the state.
There’s a sense of euphoria among the children in Lanjhi when they spot Chouhan’s copter. Chouhan too responds warmly.
Chouhan is taking utmost care to maintain his personal image in public meetings. He does not forget, amidst attacks on Congress leaders, to tell the crowd that as long as ‘Mama’ is the Chief Minister, people need not worry. Chouhan is using the style of Congress to attack and also to narrate the schemes of his government. Chouhan is targeting the advertisement of Congress of ‘Gussa Aaata Hey’, by narrating his government’s schemes. He says Congress was getting angry because he was doing developmental work.
Chouhan is also attacking the video of Congress state president Kamal Nath that went viral. He asks what was the reason behind closed-door meeting with a particular community? Who was Nath threatening to tackle in that meeting? Chouhan clearly says that Congress wants to create communal disharmony in the state whereas the BJP was seeking votes on the basis of developmental works done.
Relying on ghar ka khana
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, during his hectic schedule of election campaigning, relies on home cooked food and tea. After every public meeting, he gets ready for the next by sipping tea. Before addressing any constituency, he goes through a folder to see the brief note of the works done by the government there. Chouhan assesses the response of the people and public turnout to evaluate the condition of the party in that area and this helps him in preparing his strategy for the coming time.
Government would be formed comfortably: Shivraj Singh Chouhan
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in the discussion during the journey, said the party was strong on some seats while some seats have a tough contest. He admits that the party was weak on some seats. Explaining the equations of seats, Chouhan clearly says that it is certain that they would form the government in the state comfortably. Chouhan maintains that all could not be satisfied with the ticket distribution in elections.
He expressed his surprise on senior leader Sartaj Singh joining Congress and Ramkrishna Kusumaria contesting as Independent candidate. He maintains that the people behind these leaders are mostly from the BJP and they would also leave them in a couple of days. Chouhan admits that rebel leaders may become problem on some seats but he is sure that it would be sorted out. He says he does not have any problem during elections as he maintains continuous contact with the people.
