BHOPAL : With the installation of idols of Lord Ganesha idols at innumerable pandals in the city, the 11-day Ganeshotsava began on Thursday.
Devotees offered ‘Aarati’, fruits and sweets after installation of the idols on decorated platforms amidst chanting of mantras at pandals and temples. Right from the morning, devotees made a beeline in temples to offer obeisance to the Lord who is believed to be a destroyer of obstacles in life.
In Bhopal, the market was awash with eco-friendly idols of Lord Ganesha this time. Even people themselves made eco-friendly idols. Until last year, idols were made with Plaster of Paris (PoP) but due to the NGT ban, the use of PoP was discouraged. This time idols were made with clay.
The devotees took idols for installation in processions with DJ music. Great rush was witnessed at New Market, DB Mall, 10-number bus stop, Bittan Market and others. Idols of various sizes and shapes were available and devotees chose the idols as per their liking and budget.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan with his wife Sadhna Singh Chauhan also bought an idol for installation at their residence.
Earlier, Mayor Alok Sharma took out stock of sanitation in the city .BMC commissioner Tejaswi Naik, ADM BS Jamod, SP(North) Arvind Saxena also accompanied him.
