BHOPAL : Leader of Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Satyadev Katare, while interacting with journalists here on Tuesday said a new law should be drafted regarding survey of damaged crops and compensation for it. He said a Private Member’s Bill would be tabled in the state Assembly by him in the next session, which would cover areas like assessment of damage to crops and quantum of compensation.
Katare said the provision of compensation to the families of farmers who commit suicide due to reasons related to farming would also be incorporated in the Bill. He claimed that farmers do not get adequate relief under the provisions of Revenue Book Circular.
On the issue of bureaucrats not taking their tours of villages seriously, Katare said Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan should take action against the officers who are busy in tourism in the name of tours. He urged Chauhan to take seriously the issue of Chief Secretary Antony De Sa’s visit to Madai and Principal Secretary, PWD, Pramod Agarwal staying in a five star hotel. Katare said he would lodge complaint in this matter with the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and Chief Vigilance Commissioner. He claimed that Central government would not release any aid to the state government. He said he had written to Chief Minister Chauhan about the problems of farmers but he did not get any reply. Leader of opposition said he would send MLAs to villages to find out the reasons behind farmers committing suicides. He also demanded to give compensation equivalent to the cost incurred on crop to the farmers.
