Lokmanthan: ‘Common man has disappeared from silver screen’

Film personalities rue changing nature of Indian cinema

BHOPAL: Indian Cinema has not picturised many inspirational personalities. In the 1990s , common man was the hero of films but now he vanished from the cinema. Realistic films are not being made.

This was stated by film producer and writer Vivek Agnihotri on the third day at the parallel session of Lok Manthan on the subject “Bhartiya Filmon ka Badalta Paridrashya”.

Agnihotri said that 1400 short and big films were made on Jesus by the foreign media. Our country’s cinema has banished great personalities like Guru Nanak, Gautam Buddha, Mahavir and Gandhi from the cinema.

Actress and  Rajya Sabha member Rupa Ganguli said that we should learn from the history. Films exhibit the truth. We respect all kind of views in India. There is no culture of ban in India. She mentioned that film producers and some actors/ actress say something to create controversy.

Film Producer of South Indian Films T.S. Nagbharn said that a new kind of patriotism has been noticed in the films since last one decade. Earlier films based on freedom movement and love towards country was made. Today, Films like Chak De India, Lagaan and Bhag Milkha Bhag are produced. He further said that India cinema is linked to the International arena. Present era is the golden era for film industries undergoing through transition.

Presiding over the session, Film Producer Madhur Bhandarkar said that he has made films based on reality. He is making film Indu Sarkar based on emergency.
