BHOPAL : Three movies of different genres including epic, realistic comedy were screened on Tuesday – the fourth day of a five-day ‘Filmotsav 2015’ being jointly organised by IAS Officers Associations (IOS) and MP Madhyam at Bharat Bhavan. These movies were ‘The Lion King’, ‘Rudali’ and ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’.
The first session of programme commenced with an American animated musical epic film ‘The Lion King’ of 1994, directed by Rob Minkoff and Roger Allers. It was produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 32nd animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series.
The story takes place in a kingdom of lions in Africa, and was influenced by the biblical tales of Joseph and Moses and William Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet. The film was produced during a period known as the Disney Renaissance. It was re-released in 3D version in 2011.
A Hindi movie of 1993 ‘Rudaali’ based on the short story written by famous Bengali litterateur Mahashweta Devi. It was directed by Kalpana Lajmi. The music and songs of this film were super hit, composed by folk musician Bhupen Hazarika and songs were written by Gulzar. The film features Raakhee, Raj Babbar and Amjad Khan in one of his last films. Khan died before the film’s release, and the film is dedicated to him in the beginning credits.
The programme ended with screening of a 2014 American comedy-drama film ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey ‘. It is directed by Lasse Hallström from a screenplay written by Steven Knight, adapted from Richard Morais’ 2010 novel with the same name. The film stars Helen Mirren, Om Puri, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon. It tells the story of a dispute between two adjacent restaurants in a French town: one operated by a recently relocated Indian family.
Moreover, movie goers of every age group are enjoying a lot especially after watching the animated movies. Three movies like ‘Rush’, ‘Trikal’ and ‘Boyhood’ would be screened today.
