BETUL: A newly-born girl’s father and his kin abandoned her at the district hospital in a serious condition. After the baby recovered the hospital management contacted her father and asked him to take her. The man said his wife had died. However, he said he would take his daughter from hospital within two days but he did not turn up. The staff nurses are looking after her while the management is dismayed as who would take care of the infant if her father or other kin do not take her home.

According to sources of police station on hospital premises, Phoolanta Bai, a resident of Bajarang Nagar in Bhimpur, delivered the girl child at the district hospital recently. The condition of both the woman and her baby was serious. The baby was admitted to sick newborn care unit (SNCU) for treatment on May 9. The serious complications led to Phoolanta Bai’s death, while her daughter’s condition improved by the medication.

On May 17 the doctors discharged the baby but there was no one to take her home. The hospital staff said there was no attendant for a last few days while the baby remained hospitalised. The in-charge of the SNCU informed the TI Verma of the police outpost on the hospital premises about the baby. Verma talked to Phoolanta Bai’s family over the phone who told him that the mother of the infant had died and also assured that they would soon take the girl with them.
