BHOPAL : A Rajya Sabha seat from the state would fall vacant following Najma Heptullah becoming governor of Manipur. Najma’s tenure as MP would have ended in April, 2018. Several BJP leaders are eying this seat for which bye-polls will be held.
There are chances that BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya may be sent to Rajya Sabha from this seat. Vijayvargiya is active in national level politics. In the recent past, his name was in circulation for election for three vacant seats of Rajya Sabha too. Besides him, Krishna Murari Moghe and Choudhary Rakesh Singh are also amongst contenders.
Vijayvargiya is known to be close to BJP national president Amit Shah and hence, it is said that his chances are high. Chouhan had promised Moghe and Singh that they would be sent to Rajya Sabha.
There is tradition that state leaders are sent to Rajya Sabha when bye-polls on vacant seats take place. Central leadership of the party may also play important role in deciding about who would go to Rajya Sabha from this vacant seat.
