BHOPAL : A jeweller in Bairagarh was duped on Tuesday night by a conman who introduced himself as an employee one of his well-known contacts and fled with gold jewellery weighing around 246 grams said to be worth around Rs 7 lakh. The Bairagarh police on the complaint of the victim jeweller registered a case against unidentified conman under section 420 of IPC and started investigations.

According to Bairagarh police, the victim Gulab Singh Mewara runs a jewellery shop in the name of Pawan Jewellers at Gidwani Park in Bairagarh. In his complaint he stated that on Tuesday night he received a call on his mobile from an unknown number and the caller identified himself as owner of Hariom Furniture located in the nearby area. The caller said that he wants to buy some jewellery and is sending his employee to the shop and requested the jeweller to send some varieties so that he may select some article from them. The caller said that once he selects the article he would send the payment also. Mewara trusted his words. Then around 8.30 pm a man arrived at his shop and introduced himself as an employee of Hariom Jewellers. He took some silver jewellery at first and went back. After some time he returned and said that some articles were selected by his employer and now he wants some gold articles. Mewara gave him gold chains, earrings, rings and other articles all weighing around 246 grams and worth around Rs 7 Lakh. The conman took the articles and never returned. Subsequently, Mewara came to police and filed a complaint. Police following his complaint launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

SP North Arvind Saxena said that the story of the jeweller seems fishy. He has no CCTV camera installed in his showroom. His ornaments were also insured which prima facie makes the case suspicious. However the police have registered a case on Wednesday and are investigating the case.
