Jabalpur: Vegetable seller attacks constable on COVID vigil

The police constable was issuing a chalan for breaching COVID-19 guidelines when he was attacked by the accused.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A police constable was stabbed by a vegetable vendor in Jabalpur town on Thursday. The police constable was issuing a chalan for breaching COVID-19 guidelines when he was attacked by the accused.

The incident occurred at Anand Kunj under Garha police station of the town. The police have registered a case of attempt to murder and started manhunt to nab the accused.

According to information, vegetable vendors have been permitted door to door sale by the district administration. On Thursday noon, Garha police station got an information of an unlawful assembly by vegetable vendors Anan Kunj locality to sell their product.

A police team was sent om the spot. Following police intervention, most of the vegetable vendors scattered away while some of them stayed there and continued their business.

A short while later, police team again reached the spot and started issuing Chalans. This irked a vegetable vendor identified as Ahid Usmani to the extent that he got into scuffle with a police constable, Ajay Shrivastava. Usmani attacked Shrivastava with a knife and injured him. Shrivastava has suffered serious injuries on his chest.

Superintendent of police (SP), Siddharth Choudhary said that the condition of Shrivastava was stable. “There are five criminal cases registered against the accused. A police team has been tasked to nab him,” he said
