BHOPAL : A major fire destroyed a factory producing incense sticks located at Lambakheda under Gunga police station on Tuesday. Firefighters were battling the inferno till the filing of the report. Congress leader Govind Goel owns the factory, where incense sticks under the brand name “Puja-Path Agarbatti” were manufactured. The loss may run into crores of rupees.

Incense sticks factory gutted in fire

What caused the fire is not know. The factory is spread in three acres in Lambakheda. The fire erupted at 5.00 PM when workers were inside the factory where raw material including oil, scent and saw dust (wood) were dumped for manufacturing the incessant sticks. Workers quarters were also on the the premises. Fire fighters from Mandideep and Bhopal were dispatched to douse fire.

The fire sparked panic among the public and workers who immediately came out from factory premises. Smoke which bellowed from factory, hovered over the clouds. Black smoke remained hovering for hours. Entire atmosphere were filled with smoke and scent effervesces.

BMC Fire station in-charge Sajid Khan told Free Press that “So far we have dispatched 25 fire engines. Fire fighters from Mandideep and Bhopal were dispatched to douse fire. But the fire is yet to be doused. The factory has been completely gutted. We were informed of the fire in the evening”.

SP(North) Arvind Saxena said, ” Attempt is still on to douse the fire. It is major fire as much raw material was dumped in the premises. So loss and damage has not been accessed.”
