Bhopal: Chhatarpur farmer died as he failed to get required treatment said Congress committee probing into his death. Mangal Singh, a farmer of village Dumra in Chattarpur district, who was sitting on dharna demanding compensation for his damaged crops, had died on July 19.

The family had no money for his treatment which led to his death, the report said. The LoP had constituted a committee of MLAs comprising Vikram Singh and Chanda Gour to inquire into the circumstances that led to death of the farmer.

Farmer died as he could not get proper treatment, said Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh, here on Sunday. Citing the report, Singh said that Mangal’s crop had got damaged due to drought and demanding compensation he had sat on dharna. Chief Minister has failed to save the lives of farmers and he should resign, said Singh.

The committee in its 12-point report stated that village kotwar had announced on July 13 that the tehsildar and other officers would distribute compensations to farmers on July 14. The villagers and farmers kept waiting for officers at Panchayat office but no one turned up.

When none of the official came, Mangal Singh sat on dharna, since he was famished he fell ill. The farmer was taken to CHC Maharajpur and later shifted to Chattarpur district hospital, there the doctors referred him to Gwalior medical hospital.

However, the family had no money for the treatment and so they returned with Mangal Singh to their village, said the report, adding that the farmer breathed his last on July 19.  Congress leader claimed that no official came to village to offer any financial aid to the family of the deceased farmer till July 29. LoP has demanded Rs 1 crore compensation to the family and government job to one of the kin.
