BHOPAL : The Jabalpur High Court has directed CBI’s Joint Director RC Agarwal to appear in person before the court. The CBI team investigating Vyapam scam is headed by Agarwal.

Several persons accused in the scam have applied for bail in the High Court. So far, STF lawyers used to present their side in these petitions.

With CBI being given the charge of investigations, the STF lawyers are no longer opposing the bail pleas.

The High Court had asked the CBI to present its stand in the Court. But the CBI counsel did not plead when three bail petitions came up for hearing and only sought more time from the court. The Court, on Monday, directed the CBI Joint Director to appear in person and make his stand on bail petitions clear.

High Court has fixed August 12 as date of hearing. CBI had asked Supreme Court to allow STF to continue probing some cases, mainly because it was unable to present its side on bail pleas The Supreme Court rejected CBI’s plea and directed the latter to take over all cases within three weeks. Now CBI would have to present its stand during hearing in bail applications.
