BHOPAL : Herbal aphrodisiacs are available in abundance at the International Herbal Mela, which began at the Lal Parade Ground here on Friday. Pure Shilajit costs Rs 20,000 per kilogram while bust oil costs Rs 1000 per litre. The price of ‘Safed Musli’ starts at Rs 5,000 per kilogram.
Similarly, herbal medicines for Sciatica, joint pain, memory loss, blood pressure, diabetes, skin diseases, piles, mental problems, stones, gynaecological disorders are also available in almost every stall. Besides, varieties of pickles and Soth-Ladoos are also available. Many stalls also have Ayurveda experts (Vaidyas), whom the patients can consult. Stalls of Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal had not opened on the first day.
Vaidya Balram Jaware of ‘Vishal Jadi Booti Bhandar’ (Pachmarhi), talking to Free Press, “Pure Shilajit costs Rs 20,000 per kilogram. However, we sell it in small packets and pouches. Bust oil costs Rs 1,000 per litre. Small bottle containing 100 ml costs Rs 100.” Ayurveda expert Annilal Chaudhary (Narsinghpur) said, “We read the pulse and then prescribe herbal medicines. In Van Mela, the diagnosis is free of charge as we do not charge a single paisa for it. People suffering from any problem should visit Van Mela”.
Madhya Pradesh is a state where forests are spread in an area of 95,000 square kilometers, which accounts for 31 per cent of the total geographical area of the state. The herbs and plants of medicinal importance are found in abundance in these forests. Madhya Pradesh Minor Forest Produce Cooperative Federation has been organizing herbal fairs since 2001.
