Bhopal: The Habibganj police busted a gang of thieves with the arrest of four of its members on Sunday. Police have also seized stolen gold jewellery, five expensive mobile handsets and one LED TV, all to the tune of Rs 3 lakh from their possession.
SHO, Habibganj police station, Ravindra Yadav said the accused have been identified as Akash alias Suraj, Manish, Suresh and Nirmal Gujarati. Akash was a Tata Magic driver while siblings Manish and Suresh worked as conductor in Magic. Nirmal, who resides behind Parul Hospital, used to help them in selling stolen goods.
SHO Yadav further said that one more member of the gang, Ravi Chauhan is still absconding. The arrested miscreants told police that major share of stolen items is with Ravi Chauhan who is yet to be arrested.
About their modus operandi, SHO Yadav said the gang members used to steal expensive phones of passengers in Magic and nobody suspicted them. Taking advantage of this fact, they once stole an LED TV of a passenger.
On the other hand, they used to make reccee of locked houses which they burgled in the night. Their arrest was made on the basis of a tip-off from a police informer that a youth (Akash alias Suraj) was trying to sell expensive a mobile phone at throwaway price in Bittan Market area after which police nabbed him. He confessed that the mobile was stolen by him.
Later based on the information provided by Akash, all the remaining three accused were arrested by police and Stolen items were recovered from their possession. They confessed to burglaries in Ratibad and Habibganj area of the city.
