BHOPAL : As Dengue is fast spreading its tentacle in the state capital, the touts have become active in taking advantage of it and minting money overnight. Goat milk which is believed to be a panacea for dengue patients is being sold for Rs 1500 per litre in the city.
Since there is no specific vaccine or drug to prevent dengue, people are looking for alternative or natural home remedies to control the dangerous disease. Papaya leaves and goat milk are the ones that have gained top spots when it comes to treating and managing dengue naturally.
Now, touts are selling these items at soaring prices- goat milk for Rs 1,500/litre and also selling a dry blade of papaya leaf.
While goat milk is believed to help in increasing platelet counts, there is no scientific proof yet to back this claim. As far as leaves of papaya tree is concerned, recently, a pill made of papaya leaf extract has been found to be effective in treating dengue patients. The leaves of papaya can be crushed and then strained using a cloth to drink the pure juice. Probably, papaya is the most well-known alternative treatment for dengue.
A Dengue patient said, “We arranged papaya leaves a little easily but for goat milk we had to loose purse strings. The goat’s milk costs us Rs 1500 per litre. It shows that touts have become active in taking advantage of the situation.”
1,600 houses surveyed for dengue larvae in old city
The larvae survey teams are continuously surveying different areas of the city to find and destroy mosquito larvae spreading dengue. With more than 80 cases of dengue in the city, 59 survey teams are working towards it.1,600 houses were surveyed on Sunday, where larvae were found in 143 houses at areas in and around old Bhopal. The teams have been instructed to destroy the larvae and disinfect the vessel where it is found. DMO Akhilesh Dubey said this area has been found to have least number of houses where larvae have been found till now.
