Dr ID Chaurasia had warned Ashish Chaturvedi of dire consequences
BHOPAL : Dr ID Chaurasia, assistant professor, Gandhi Medical College, was arrested on Wednesday by Gwalior police for threatening Vyapam whistle-blower Ashish Chaturvedi for raking up the issue of his alleged illegal appointment. Dr Chaurasia was arrested under section 507 of IPC.
Chaturvedi, who had lodged an FIR at Jhansi Road police station against Dr Chaurasia, said, “ Dr Chauriasia had threatened me on September 16, 2015 stating that I should be prepared for dire consequences if I raise the issue of his illegal appointment. He said the chief minister and health minister were his good friends”.
Ashish Chaturvedi had sought information related to alleged illegal appointment of Dr Chourasia.
On December 17, Ashish received a letter from an additional secretary of the state government saying that “The case has been presented at the highest level and we are unable to supply the information. As soon as the file related to the case is available, information will be sent.”
More than 100 days after filing the RTI application, followed by an alleged threat by the medico against whom the information was sought, the whistleblower recorded his statement at a police station in Gwalior.
SHO (Jhansi Road police station) Sanjiv Nayan Sharma said, “Gwalior police arrested Dr ID Chaurasia in Bhopal under section 507 for threatening RTI activist Ashish Chaturvedi. As it is a bailable offense, Dr Chaurasia has been granted bail.”
