BHOPAL : Don’t be amused if a student stops your vehicle in the state capital and slaps a penalty challan in your name. Home minister of the state Babulal Gaur is planning to provide police training to school students.
The Students police scheme would be flagged off from Bhopal next month in which initially sixty students would be provided police training. Gaur has selected three schools from his own constituency, Govindpura for the scheme. Sixty students from three schools including Carmel Convent School, St Thomas School and Maharana Pratap Government School would be selected at the start of the scheme. These students would be given uniforms like the cops and they would be given police training for two days a week. A sub-inspector rank officer would provide training to these students. They would be taken to police station and would be trained in registering FIR and daily reports. They would also be taken to courts and would be provided training regarding various aspects of crimes and criminals. After the training these students would be deployed to perform field duties like traffic control and helmet checking operations.
According to Gaur students above eighth standard would be selected for training under the scheme. The students would be selected after getting permission from the school principals and special care would be taken that their studies do not suffer. He said that knowledge of law would help these students to become aware and well informed citizen in the future.
Students from most of the schools of the city would be included in the scheme. They would be deployed in duty in fairs and other public programmes in the line of the Scouts and Guides. He said that society plays an important role in controlling crime and for this reason children were being associated with the police.
