Garoth : Garoth-Bhanpura area, a region in Madhya Pradesh-India, is continuing to be on number one spot in orange production. The oranges produced here have great reputation within the country as well as in foreign countries. Garoth has become Chhota Nagpur in this rainy season as plants of oranges are sold everywhere. As per the vendors, around five lakh orange plants have been sold till now. Farmers are planting orange plants in their farms. The plants that are being sold in Garoth, come from Nagpur district of Maharastra and these are hybrid plants. Farmers are getting these plants at the cost of Rs 35. Farmers are also being provided with the help and assistance to buy these plants from horticulture department. Around 250 plants are planted in one hectare, which fall fruit in 4-5 years.
By selling these fruits a farmers earn around Rs 4 Lakh.These plants require less water and irrigation facilities. Farmers also sow Fenugreek, Coriander and other plants too in their farms which provide them extra income too. Oranges of this area goes to Neemuch, Shajapur and other places.
Farmers are demanding the construction of cold storage so that they can store their oranges for longer time period and their oranges don’t rot.
