BHOPAL : Artisans of 20 districts from across the state have displayed their handloom and handicraft products in a 10-day long exhibition-cum-sale ‘Sawan Mela’ currently underway at Gauhar Mahal.
As many as 70 stalls are on display in this exhibition where jewellery, saris, kurtis, suits, wooden toys, leather products, home décor items from Ujjain, Indore, Mandsaur, Gwalior, Dewas, Betul, Budni, Rewa, Canderi and others have been showcased for city denizens.
A large variety of Maheswari Saris, suits and Dupatta in silk-cotton stuff of Maheshwar, Khargon are major attractions for the female buyers.
Talking to Free Press, vendor Ahmed Hussain, who hails from Khargon district, said, “For the first time I have brought Teenkila suit in contrast and its border have in three different colours. We also have large variety of Duppata in V shape and Rassa border in silk, cotton and Khadi stuffs and half tissue sari the cost of which is Rs 5,000.
“We also have light yellow coloured Mahehwari sari in half-chatai border in silk-cotton stuff and its cost is Rs four thousands. This sari is copy of that sari which actor Vidya Balan wore in movie ‘Hamari Adhoori Kahani’. I’ve met Balan personally in Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai and she wore this sari but that was in pink colour,” said Hussain.
The jewellery including tops, necklace, garland, pendent, Sandstone and marble of Jabalpur are another major attraction of the fair.
Vendor of this stall who hails from Jabalpur said, “We brought sandstones and marbles from Bhedaghat for making jewellery. We have jewellery in various designs and colours for different age groups. Visitors are demanding the mix pattern jewellery which means half sandstone and marble. We have plane tops in various colour and size which is on demand of teenagers and garlands are on demand of women.”
Some products made of brass including statue of Natraj, fish shaped lock and idols of god-goddess of Teekamgarh, items of white metal and meenakari work are also on sale which are attracting buyers. Some items made of leather and terracotta are also available.
The fair is being organised by MP Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation and Mrignaynee Emporium at Bittan Market on the occasion of Rakshabandhan.
