KHAKNAR : Gambling with Chakari, Titli and Numbers is on the rise under the alleged patronage of police officers who are stationed in regional melas to maintain law and order during the fairs. Financial crunch driven famers are often lured by this illegal regional trade during their mela visits.
The illegal trade is unabashedly being run in every fair that is organised in this region year after year. The fairs of Sawali, Borkheda, Jamanya, Data Sahab and Mohangarh etc affect the farmers despite their poor financial condition.
It may be noted that these games are purportedly stopped by the police officers stationed at the fair site but this illegal industry resumes its activities again at night. And it is also alleged by the commuters that the police department receives a hefty sum from the owners of this illegal trade.
Akhilesh Yadav on visit to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his family members arrived here on Monday on a three-day visit to the famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. “I wish to see all the national parks of Madhya Pradesh. I had stayed at one of them earlier,” Yadav, who arrived here by a chartered plane, told reporters. The Samajwadi Party leader, however, refused to say anything on politics or his party’s condition in Madhya Pradesh. “Let me first see the forest… about the party, later,” he said. BTR, spread over 745 sq km, is home to more than 68 tigers, according to deputy director C M Sharma. PTI
